single use, plastic bag ban, bluffton, sc, environment, reusable, free, tote bag

With an eye on the environment, November 1st, 2018 is the date the plastic bag ban in Beaufort County goes into effect. It bans “single-use” plastic bags commonly used to carry groceries, takeout food and clothing. The environment is first and foremost here in Greater Bluffton areas of the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Which plastic bags are still allowed?

The ordinance does not ban:

  • Dry cleaning bags
  • Door-hanger bags
  • Newspaper bags
  • Packages of bags for “garbage, pet waste, or yard waste”
  • Pharmacy and veterinary bags that “contain prescription drugs or other medical necessities”
